Keshmish baa' hozho - Merry Christmas

Child Drive 2008 was the best ever!

Thank You!

What an unbelievable Child Drive we witnessed this season!

We delivered 280 holiday baskets of food to our families with a fleece, along with all the special gifts, wrapped and tagged for 650 of our children.

Smiles and thanks were everywhere!

We were challenged by several feet of snow falling over our land for 2 weeks. We have not had this amount of snow and cold in 17 years, and it continues to impact family visits and communications. But it sure is great it have the beauty & moisture! One of our Outreach folks, Louise, flipped her jeep, loaded with toys & baskets, while navigating Uphill Road by Church Rock. Not only did she walk away unscathed, but insisted that
my daughter and I immediately complete deliveries with her since
NONE of the goodies were damaged! What a day!

We were able to focus on our Grandparents through the generosity
of several folks from Family-to-Family (F-to-F) who sent blankets all year long. Check out their website www.familiy-to-family.org

All of our 12 – 18 year olds received $15 Wal-Mart gift cards and each of our 5 – 11 year olds received stockings stuffed to the brim with goodies provided by National Relief Charities.

Our 107 sponsors included 2 corporate matching funds, 20 new folks, Classes across the US, several religious congregations, as well as our returning faithful! We believe this website, our partnership with F-to-F, as well as the spectacular DVD created & produced by Amanda Newman, are directly responsible for this year’s phenomenal success! You may view Amanda's masterpiece here on our website.

Our thanks go to John Brandt in Maine for maintaining our site and our blog. John has also set up a Facebook page. Please visit both and "become a Fan" on Facebook.

Thanks to Pam Koner for providing many new opportunities through FtoF “Angels”.

Southwest Indian Foundation (SWIF) provided 50 food basket vouchers through Sister Maureen at St. Paul’s Church in Crownpoint. Wal Mart, Gallup, once again, provided a generous grant. Gallup Community Pantry supplied potatoes, grapefruits and bananas for a small donation.

We raised $21,089 (a 24% increase over 2007 and an all time high) and
received dozens of boxes of toys, clothing, books, sports items & blankets. The Drive ended with $5,012 in our account. This provides emergency funds for food & wood as well as savings sales.

In truth, our private sponsors are our Drive’s backbone. Donations small & large make great visits from Santa’s elves. Remember, all donations are welcomed throughout the year.

We continue to advocate expanding our sponsor base, either directly or though F-to-F. If you are aware of person(s), businesses, or organizations that we might pursue in joining our Child Drive, please let me know, and I will be happy to contact them.

You are very special to our children, their families, & us. Our heart-felt thanks are sent your way.

~Kathy Spitz

Note: We are all volunteers; ALL funds raised and items received go directly to our families. Our small overhead includes office & wrapping supplies & some fuel costs.
